Female Mayflower Street Resident Talks Lawsuit after SOE Detention
Forty-two-year-old Kendra Foreman was released from the Belize Central Prison on Thursday, after being detained for several months during the state of emergency that was effected in Belize City back in July. Foreman, a resident of Mayflower Street was, swept up along with several others from that area following a violent weekend that saw two persons murdered in gang rivalry. According to the mother, she has no criminal record or immediate ties to gang activity and cannot understand why she was picked up on the morning of July eighth. Foreman says she is contemplating legal action against the police department for wrongful detention.

“I honestly don’t know how I got wrapped up in all of this because to be honest they gave me a charge sheet saying gang affiliation and gang activities, on my charge sheet that I got. So I don’t know how I got wrapped up because I’m not a gang member and I don’t even have a gang charge. I’ve never had a charge before with a gang. I’m not a hangout person or anything, so I don’t know how I got caught up in this. I don’t know how I got caught up with the gang or between the murders with Ghost Town and South Side. I don’t know how I got caught up in it.”

“I just wahn get the proper authorities, I want to sue the police department or whoever is responsible for it.”

“Okay, so is there anything else you want to share with us that we’re overlooking or that we’re not asking?”

“Well yes, because I even have my daughter-in-law, she was detained the first time. This time she wasn’t detained with me but the first time she was two months pregnant, she lost a baby. She’s going through a lot of things right now, I don’t even know what all. I feel emotional but I’m just trying to be strong for my kids and for her.”
