Party Politics in Port Getting Petty?
The political race in Port Loyola where U.D.P. standard bearer Phillip Willoughby is running against Gilroy Usher Senior of the People’s United Party will be one to watch come election day. Leading up to that date in November both candidates have been actively campaigning in the constituency where mudslinging between their respective camps has been ramping up. On Friday, Virginio Roches, a resident of the Jane Usher Boulevard area, reportedly encountered Willoughby as he made his way home on bicycle. The outspoken P.U.P. reporter alleges that Willoughby physically aggressed him for comments he had made in other parts of the media.

“I di come off di boulevard went [down] Jane Usher Boulevard with my LPG tank pan di bike handle. Mr. Willoughby mi deh pan di passenger side eena fi he vehicle. While I di ride past fi he vehicle, he jump outta fi he vehicle, look pan me, I sih when ih come, ih look pan me and just shub me eena my side. I look fi fall down affa my bike with my tank. I just balance up, ketch my balance and I continue ride. Went home, I called the police. Di police come and I mek a report. Yesterday I mek a formal report. The reason why Mr. Willoughby jump out, Mr. Willoughby look pan me and seh, “Roches, ah noh wahn you di disrespect me.” I disrespect you eena weh kinda way, Mr. Willoughby? Because I call di media house and mek di media house know yoh deh eena di Port fi two years and you noh do nothing fi Port Loyola eena two years, you wahn come and shub me down fi dat? You coulda mi easily go da di police station and tell di police dat me di seh dis and dat bout you over di radio station and then yoh sue me fi [defamation] of character. You tek it physically. We noh need fi go through nothing physically because dis da election time and dis da noh di time fi dat. And noh because yoh have yoh name pan wahn ballot mean I wahn come and try mark yoh character. No, yoh is touch me, yoh is shub me and this da di first and it wahn be the last time. I noh wahn tolerate that, that’s why I make wahn formal complaint to the Raccoon Street Police Station yesterday eena di morning.”
According to Roches, he has filed a complaint with the police department.
