Senators Bid Adieu at Final Meeting of the Upper House

On Wednesday, senators on both sides of the floor bade farewell to the National Assembly where they have been serving as parliamentarians during the past five years.  While they individually had parting words to their colleagues in the upper house, they also left words of encouragement and recommendations for their future successors.  Leading off those remarks was Business Senator Mark Lizarraga.  The often outspoken senator began by reflecting on the oath he took when being sworn into office.

“I would like to ask for your indulgence in a few moments of privilege since this may very well be the last sitting or my last sitting in these honorable chambers.  Mr. President, I would like to impress upon new senators coming to these chambers and remind them of the oath that they took.  In that oath, it reads without fear or favor, and it’s something that I took very seriously during my tenure.  I concur with my colleagues that have continued to call over the years for more details to be provided.  I think for us to have meaningful debates in this chamber we need to have more details and I think it is the administration’s duty to provide us with the details if they want us to lend support to those motions that they bring before us.”
