BHS in the Top 50 Teams at the Global Robotics Competition

The Belize High School again entered the Global Robotics Competition called FIRST Global Challenge.  This year, the competing students upped their game and nine of its students ranked fiftieth out of one hundred and seventy-five teams in the Global Robotics Competition. The high school has been participating in the competition for the past two years, but because of the pandemic, the team had to compete virtually this year. Principal Jamie Usher tells us more:

“When everything shifted virtual FIRST did a great job of expanding the scope of competition to include social media; more networking; more technical talks with students. So, from one hundred and seventy-five registered teams, we started out in June and worked our way right up to the last week of September working with thousands of students from all over the world, trying to get through to communicate, to learn, to expand on problem solving skills; critical thinking; research; inquiry; experimenting. And we are ecstatic and we hope that Belize will join us in celebrating these nine students because they have ranked fifty out of one hundred and seventy five registered teams. We couldn’t be more proud of them and we hope that Belize is ready to embrace the fact that our STEM education is here to stay and our STEM education is proving to be just what our students need to be able to navigate in an information heavy world and a world that is moving more and more digital and you have to be able to have skills that you can participate as an equal, global citizen.”
