Cent. Am. human rights group supports Belize
Belize received some welcomed support over the weekend in its continuing fight against Guatemala’s territorial claim to the country. The Central American Human Rights Commission, meeting in Guatemala City–the proverbial belly of the beast–passed a resolution denouncing the claim as a flagrant violation of Belize’s right to self-determination. The resolution was proposed by the Belize delegation and was passed unanimously. It was further agreed that each member organisation would publicize the resolution in its own country. Representing the Human Rights Commission of Belize at the meeting, which was the 22nd annual general assembly, were President Simeon Sampson and National Coordinator Maria Gamero. Human rights groups from all 7 Central American countries were in attendance.
