Man detained for alleged rape

One man has been detained pending the outcome of a rape investigation. Police say a 28-year old woman reported to them that around 3:00 on Sunday morning, she was walking over the Bel-China Bridge, heading towards Vernon Street when a dark green pickup driven by a dark man drove up and offered her a ride. The woman claims that the man, instead of taking her home, took her to Belizean Beach on the Western Highway and raped her. She also told police that she was robbed of $650. The woman claims the man then brought her back to the city and let her go. A number of obvious questions arise from the police release but the press officer has declined comment until the investigation is complete.
