Edwin Carrington coming to Belize
Next week CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington will be in Belize for a 3-day visit. While here, Carrington will be consulting with Belizean officials on the possibility of holding the Third Sitting of the Assembly of Caribbean Community Parliamentarians (ACCP) in Belize, which would be held later this year. Prime Minister Said Musa, Minister of Budget Planning Ralph Fonseca and Opposition Leader Dean Barrow will meet with Carrington to discuss key issues facing the Caribbean community. According to Lawrence Sylvestre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among other topics, the delegation will brief the Belizean officials on the status of a CARICOM single market and the establishment of a Caribbean Court of Justice. Overall the visit is expected to foster more interest in CARICOM and the opportunities available through the organization to the Belizean people. The Secretary General will be accompanied by a high level CARICOM Secretariat including Deputy Secretary General Dr. Carla Barnett.
