Macal Dairy taken over by Big H
If you are among those who enjoyed the rich flavour of full cream fresh milk from Cayo’s Macal Dairy, take heart; the financially troubled cooperative has been given a new lease on life. In ceremonies Wednesday at the processing plant in San Ignacio the company was officially put under the management of the Big H group. Under the terms of the agreement Big H will assume the losses and debt of Macal while at the same time guaranteeing the farmers a reasonable price and steady market. Big H boss Richard Harrison says that in addition to fresh milk they will market four types of cheese as well as yogurt. The products will be marketed under the brand name “Mamita’s Milk”.
