40,000 expected to visit agriculture show
If you haven’t made plans for the weekend yet, one of your options is the National Agriculture and Trade Show. Organizers are expecting that a whopping 40,000 visitors will be patrolling the fairgrounds this weekend and today, vendors were eagerly setting up shop in preparation for all of them. In addition to the food on sale, farmers from all over the country will proudly display their prized produce. The event will also feature a 2-day rodeo show as well as a canoe race from San Ignacio to the fairgrounds. Opening ceremonies were held earlier this afternoon with addresses by Belmopan Mayor Anthony Chanona, Prime Minister Said Musa and Minister of Agriculture Daniel Silva. As part of this year’s show, the Mahogany Man, Henry C. Fairweather, will receive a special award for planting more than 87,000 mahogany trees. Entertainers will include everyone from Mr. Peters and the Boom and Chime Band to Brother David and the Tribal Vibes to Keith Lyn. The theme for this year’s show is “Agriculture makes Dollars and Sense.”
