Rotoract helps out Youth Hostel
It seems everyone’s got a computer to give away these days but this time its not government or a big corporation but a local youth group doing the giving. Interact, the younger version of Rotoract, had some extra money to spend and decided to help out the Youth Hostel by buying them a computer. But when the bill came the kids were a little short. No problem, big brother and sister Rotoract were ready to step in to lend a hand.
Kimberley Vasquez, Community Service Dir., Rotoract
“Whatever we do, when Interact has a situation like that, as the older club, we meet them, so that they can have the funds needed so it became a joint donation between Rotoract and Interact.”
Janelle Chanona
“You always do donations like this?”
Kimberley Vasquez
“Yes. Always because we are youths we try to usually to schools, we have scholarships or Christmas parties so it’s most of our community service is geared toward children and youth.”
Bernard Panton, Youth Hostel
“This computer will be used in our office at the Youth Hostel to do some of our office work and it will also be used along with another computer to help the youths start a program that we’ve been planning.”
Janelle Chanona
“What kind of program?”
Bernard Panton
“A computer program to get them into the beginning stages. Because we have kids that come in from the community that come in with all these skills and we need to channel all these skills through them and that’s what we’ll get done with this computer.”
The computer is valued at approximately $1,300. Presently there are over 40 young people living at the Youth Hostel.
