New stamps celebrate Belizean fruits
The Belize Postal Service received high marks in a recent quality of service survey conducted by the Universal Postal Union. Verlene Arzu, Public Relations Officer for the Post Office, says they are pleased with the results and the report should clear up many misconceptions Belizeans have about the Post Office. Meanwhile Arzu took time out to promote the department’s latest set of stamps, an issue all about Belizean fruits.

“On the stamps you will see the mango fruit, the cashew fruit, the papaya and the banana. The Post Office released this Fruits of Belize issue on the 27th of April and the 25 cents value stamp displays the mango fruit and a lot of Belizeans enjoy this fruit and look forward to the mango season. The cashew fruit is on the 60 cents stamp and this fruit has wine that we can make from it and the nut from this fruit has a high commercial value. The banana fruit is on the dollar stamp and this fruit is now enjoying a young and thriving industry in the country and also the papaya fruit which is on the 75 cents stamp is also enjoying a young and thriving industry in Belize.”
“We’d like to take this opportunity to mention the quality of service the Belize Postal Service offers and the above test was conducted by the Universal Postal Union and the results of this test that we would like to release to you the customer that we are providing an efficient service.”
“The results prove that the post office delivers within one day of arrival. When you get your mails from the United States, we deliver it within one day of arrival at any post office in Belize. And time A and B shows that the U.S Post Office takes on average of 16.3 days to forward the mails to Belize. So many times people think that the delay is here within our post office and it takes 16.3 days even before the mail leaves the post office in the United States. So when we get our mails here, we deliver it within one point one day so that is what the results are showing.”
Arzu says because the bulk of mail Belize receives is from the United States the study was only conducted between those two countries.
