ComPol Concerned about Adherence to Quarantine Regulations on Election Day
With a preliminary post-mortem of the activities held on Nomination Day, we asked the Commissioner of Police about his expectations for Election Day. Long lines of voters are expected to form and the machinery of political parties will be in full gear. We asked the ComPol how the police department plans to mitigate mass gatherings to ensure that voters as well as political supporters adhere to quarantine regulations.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I am hoping that come Election Day, cooler heads and sensible heads are going to prevail. We have an infomercial that should come out hopefully by Friday. We already have it audio, we are working on the visual aspect of it; in which we are informing people how they can come out and vote safely. We are asking that once you have cast your vote, please go home and rest and wait for the results to come out later on. We do not want any mass gathering; we do not want any celebration. I know that when victory is announced, those supporters of the victorious party will want to come out and celebrate, but they must put that celebration behind them for the greater good of our community. We cannot continue to behave recklessly and when your people are getting infected and they are dying from this disease, we are going to question what is this one doing and what is that one doing. We must all question ourselves; what are we doing individually to prevent ourselves from contracting the virus and infecting other persons.”
