Update on Trio Incident and Skeletal Remains in Belmopan
The discovery of a lifeless body in Trio Village, Toledo District on Monday has triggered a criminal investigation, as it has since been ascertained that the death of the Hispanic male may have been the result of foul play. According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, it appears that the individual, found faced down in mud, may have been struck over the head with a blunt object. As far as the discovery of skeletal remains in Belmopan, ComPol Williams says that they are trying to determine if it is the remains of a woman who was reported missing over a year ago.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“In respect to the body that was found in Trio, Toledo, it is being investigated as a case of murder. From what I have been told, the deceased had some head injuries and so we believe that he was hit with some blunt object. And so that is now being treated as a murder investigation. In respect to the remains found in Belmopan, we had the doctors look at it and we’re still trying to look at our list of missing persons to see whether or not the remains may belong to one of those persons who was reported missing in the past. We have been receiving some information that it might be a female who had gone missing just over a year ago and so we are looking at that possibility at this time.”
