Cabinet looks to improve relations with C. America

In news from Cabinet that all important body has approved a number of initiatives that effect Belize’s domestic and international agenda. Two pieces of draft legislation have been approved which will improve regulation of the offshore financial sector. Three new development concessions were approved, including one for a 30-room hotel south of Hopkins, the expansion of a banana farm to cultivate a variety of fruits for export and new equipment for Belize Waste Control Ltd. $50,000 has also been approved to help finance the participation of 25 Belizean artists in Carifesta this August in St. Kitts and Nevis. Cabinet also decided to enlarge Belize’s participation in Central American affairs, specifically to apply for membership in the Central American System of Integration (SICA) as well as the Central American Bank for Integration (CABEI). These initiatives would not prejudice Belize’s longstanding membership in CARICOM.
