Chinese Nationals from Cuba without visas detained
For years Chinese nationals have been coming to Belize from the island of Cuba and then making their way to greener pastures in the north. And it seems that business is brisk in the multi-country ring. The last chartered flight arrived in Belize on Wednesday with a group of seven men and one woman. They landed at the Phillip Goldson Airport on a private Aero Caribbean flight. And while they generally go undetected, this time authorities were forewarned via a tip. When they checked them out, none in the group had the required visas to enter Belize, making it difficult to understand how they even managed to board the plane. The Chinese nationals were kept overnight and today appeared in court. Magistrate Tracy Sosa ordered that they be sent back on the next available flight to Cuba. But that won’t be until April first, so in the meantime, the group will be kept in custody. Attorney for the Chinese Nationals, Oswald Twist, told the court that his clients have indicated to him that they are prepared to return to Cuba.
