Gilly Canton is new Chamber President
Belize’s longest running private sector organisation has a new team at the top. In elections held Thursday evening at its annual general meeting Dr. Gilly Canton was named as the new President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Abdala Bedran takes Canton’s old post of Vice President for Industry, while Mark Lizarraga, Carlos Ysaguirre and Margarita Burrowes retain their seats on the executive. Councilors Norman Pennil and Arturo Vasquez also retained their seats and are joined by Emile Mena, Bridget Cullerton and Amparo Noble. Past President Yoland Crombie also sits on the council. The financial statements showed a profit for the year of 76,000 dollars on a budget of 900,000. Guest speaker at the AGM was BELTRAIDE’s Executive Chairman, Eamon Courtenay.
