“Big Blow” disaster simulation begins Thursday
We don’t know who is responsible for the name, but come Thursday and Friday the National Emergency Management Organization will be conducting operation “Big Blow.” The disaster preparedness exercise will simulate a hurricane hitting Belize, leaving a trail of destruction from Dangriga to Corozal. The drill will focus on town and village hurricane plans, hoping to bring them up to mark in time for the opening of hurricane season on June first. NEMO will issue a number of public bulletins over the course of the two-day exercise. The public is reminded that these announcements and any other apparently emergency scenarios are part of a simulation and are not to be mistaken for reality.
