Cabinet approves CARICOM protocols
In other news from Belmopan the weekly release from Cabinet indicates that a number of decisions have been made on the national and international fronts. Among them are the approval of two protocols enlarging Belize’s participation in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, as well the establishment of an inter-ministerial committee to properly implement the CARICOM common external tariff. A new protocol has also been approved to allow U.S. aircraft engaged in law enforcement operations to overfly Belizean territory. This will supposedly occur when Belizean authorities instruct them to aid in stopping aircraft suspected of drug trafficking. Other cabinet decisions involved the upgrading of the Geology and Petroleum Unit into a full government department, the approval to construct a bridge between Blue Creek and La Union, Mexico and the staging of hurricane preparedness exercises on April 27th and 28th.
