Roaring Creek Residents Affected by Flood Waters
….from the twin towns to Roaring Creek, where drenching rains, the outer bands of ETA, caused the river to spill over. The overflow covered the old low-lying bridge and reached at the entrance of the new elevated bridge that connects western Belize. The Police Station was under water and so were some houses; residents had to be transferred to higher ground. We found a resident attempting to save his chickens, having rushed back home after assisting family members. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo has the following report.

The Belize River which runs along Roaring Creek Village rose over night to dangerously high levels. The western approach of the newly constructed bridge was flooded. Residents along the highway, close to the river were also flooded. The old Roaring Creek Police station is under water and so is the old bridge. While motorists followed a diversion to get on the other side of the flood waters, Kyle Roberts went to save his chickens.
Kyle Roberts, Affected by Flooding
“I live right over there.”

“What did you go to do just now?”
Kyle Roberts
“I went for my chickens. They were in danger.”
“Tell us about your experience last night. What happened?”
Kyle Roberts
“Nothing really happen, the water was just rushing.”
It’s an unusual flooding that Roberts says he thought he was dreaming.
“Water really was rushing and still can’t really. I feels like a dream you know. This just happened and this hasn’t happened for a long time. This is just a wakeup call.”
Reporter
“Were you inside your home when the water began to rise?”
Kyle Roberts
“No, no, no. I was actually at my cousins house helping him get all of his things out and stuff.”
Roberts say that his neighbor was also affected. He says he lost everything to the flood waters.
Kyle Roberts
“I only have one neighbour over there and basically the water was rushing in and getting inside. I lost pretty much everything. But you know it is all good. God knows why everything happens for a reason.”
And with that Roberts walked away with his chickens, back to his house to figure out what his next move is. Meanwhile Jonathan Santos who lives in Camalote is helping his family.
Jonathan Santos, Resident
“The areas were the flood start is my sister in law house. We came about fort-thirty this morning to assist them. When I came here they were already evacuated from the house. We just came to assist and see if we can take out some of the stuff out of the house. Basically most of the stuff got caught up in the flood. Only some clothes they brought out. They are okay. This is the first time ever.”
