Two Cops Injured in Knife Attack in Hopkins
An incident in Hopkins Village has left two police officers injured. Police say that around eight-thirty on Saturday night, a cop was attacked by a man with a knife. Cops in the area came to his rescue but the man also attacked them injuring one other officer. Police say that they are trying to verify information that the man may be a mental patient. “A police officer in Hopkins was making his way towards the Hopkins Police Station in his uniform when he was approached by Ashton Nunez who pulled out a knife and inflicted a stab wound to the officer’s head. The officer then drew back and pulled out his police issued weapon and fired a warning shot in the air. The attacker then came at him again and upon hearing the shots a police mobile patrol was in the area and responded also where they attempted to detain the suspect and in the process another police officer received a stab wound to the left elbow and he was treated at the southern regional hospital and released after his injury was classified as grievous harm; whilst the officer who was stabbed in the forehead his injury was classified as wounding. The suspect Nunez received gunshot injuries during the process and is hospitalized in the southern regional hospital in a stable condition.”
