New ferry saves villagers’ travel time

Residents of Copper Bank and Progresso Villages will now have it a whole lot easier when it comes to driving to their district capital of Corozal. That’s thanks to a recently inaugurated ferry service across the New River, which will reduce the trip from 48 miles to a mere 9. The ferry, converted from a former sugar barge, was donated by Belize Sugar Industries. Materials and labour for the conversion were provided by the government of Belize. The ferry was dedicated on Saturday by Corozal’s area representatives, village chairpersons and Minister of Works Dr. Henry Canton.
