Dr. Zab & Rado Will Go to House of the Reps!

The map down south is solid blue. With the P.U.P.’s winning streak capturing the two seats in the Stann Creek District. In his first attempt at electoral politics, Doctor Louis Zabaneh toppled Frank “Papa” Mena and Rodwell Ferguson retained his seat with a huge margin. In the last election, Ferguson won by less than ten votes after a recount, but on Wednesday night, he trounced Ivan Williams with a margin of more than two thousand three hundred votes.  Here’s the story.

The People’s United Party gained grounds in the Stann Creek District in the 2020 General Elections – flipping the Dangriga Constituency. The U.D.P.’s Frank Papa Mena was the incumbent going into this election. But when the ballots were counted, first time candidate Dr. Louis Zabaneh of the PUP defeated Mena. Of the five thousand four hundred and eighty two registered voters in the division, four thousand one hundred and fifty seven voted. Of that number, Zabaneh received two thousand six hundred votes and Mena received one thousand five hundred and one votes.

“It’s actually by a larger margin than I thought. It is a strong statement from our people here in the constituency but I just want to reiterate that it is all of us; one community now going forward. I look forward to representing everyone and together we will make Dangriga great again.”

Rodwell Ferguson also delivered the Stann Creek West division for the People’s United Party. Ferguson was re-elected with four thousand nine hundred votes, beating out U.D.P.’s Ivan Williams by over two thousand three hundred votes. Williams secured two thousand and five hundred and nine votes.

“We put in the work and we had the best organization so it was very early and everybody wanted to win. So, like how we say, everybody fu win, everybody wanted the win.   I want to thank my executive and committees across the constituency. It is a huge constituency but I was able to manage it and organize it to deliver the victory. So, I want to say thanks to all of them and to the constituency at large that you have the trust and confidence in me to be the next area representative. I really appreciate it.”
