“This process starts in the fields and in locations. I really have to say that GIS helps us in a number of processes in our industry. And not only B.S.I. uses GIS online and other products which I will show you a little later. But I also want to give credit to a number of other stakeholders that have also developed skills in this area. One such entity is the Sugar Industry Research Institute who really started the development of what we now have, the Sugar Industry Management System, which is a full system where all our stakeholders can interact. The sugar cane production committee who is basically in charge of the harvesting and delivery schedules of the industry. And then we have other entities like the cane farmers associations; we now have four associations and B.S.I., who is the miller. We have both sugar cane and we also mill, so we have work with that.”

The theme for World GIS Day is, “GIS – A Platform for National Development.”
