World GIS Day is Celebrated Virtually
Today is being celebrated as World GIS Day and is used to celebrate innovative applications of geographic information system technology in everyday lives. Held virtually this year, Total Business Solutions Limited shared out GIS is used in analysis into geospatial data. Given the COVID-19, organizations have had to use GIS to better understand and mitigate the impacts of the pandemic and this year, it was about showing the public how GIS has improved the work of its users. Data Manager at Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute Andria Rosado spoke about it is used to monitor Belize’s coastal and marine ecosystems.

“We work with N.G.O. community, businesses and governmental stakeholders to help us with our work and strive to ensure both Belize’s economic and social development. We currently have research and monitoring programmes such as coastal planning, coastal water quality monitoring, sports fishing, coastal and marine data centre. So to start off with some work, we had mangrove spatial assessment for 2019 that was wrapped up in March of this year. It also presents results for coastal planning regions as we per what we have outlined in our integrated coastal zone management plan.”
