Cop identified, but not as assailant in beating
Investigations continue into last week’s assault on a Chinese shopkeeper in King’s Park. According to police an I.D. parade was held in which one P.C. Moore was positively identified as one of those present Thursday night when grocer Tam Kin Chan was beaten across the face with a Belikin bottle. Moore was not, however, identified as the man who actually administered the beating. No other suspects were singled out by witnesses and it appears that the complainants have now decided to drop all charges. There is a small chance that even without a complaint the Police Department could take administrative action against Moore if it finds that his action warrants it. The incident arose when a number of apparently drunken patrons became angry while ordering fried chicken and beer in Chan’s shop on Sixth Street. Chan and several other people were injured during the allegedly unprovoked outburst.
