Just before news time on Tuesday, forty-five-year-old Floyd Carter was gunned down on East Collet Canal in Belize City. The resident of Belama Phase One was among a group of persons on the canal side when a gunman, dressed in black clothing approached and fired multiple shots at the ground. Several shots found their mark on Carter, who was placed in the pan of a pickup truck and rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Sixteen minutes after the shooting, when he arrived at the hospital, Carter was pronounced dead.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Around 6:10 p.m., thereabout, police received information of shots fired on East Collet Canal Belize City. Police responded where they saw one Mister Carter who was suffering from gunshot injury to the body. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he later succumbed while undergoing treatment.”
Carter is originally from Hattieville, where his mother still resides. Today, the mother was too distraught to provide us with an interview, but she did say that the family is perplexed as to why anyone would want Carter dead. She says he didn’t have beef with anyone and was not known to be a troublemaker. Police investigation has led to the detention of one person, believed to be the gunman.
