New York Belizean crowned Miss Belize
She promised to do what only one other Belizean woman has ever done, be one of the top ten contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant. Today, 25 year old Shiemicka Richardson is one step closer to that promise. On Friday, Richardson was crowned Miss Belize 2000 over four other hopefuls at the Belmopan Civic Center. Shiemicka is confident that she’ll make it to the top and she hopes to do so with the support of the Belizean people.

“I’m pretty sure of myself. I’ve done a lot of work in New York. I’ve modeled and acted for about two years. I’m pretty confident. Anybody who knows me will tell you I don’t give up that easily. When I say I’m going to do something, I’ll do it. So like I said, you’ll see me until the end of the show.”
“I go back to New York, I leave tomorrow and on Monday I have a meeting with the Miss Universe organization in New York which is good, because most of the girls don’t have the opportunity to go out to that meeting. But since I do live there, I can take that opportunity and meet with them which is good because I’ll get my face out there a little earlier than the girls who can’t make it.”
“Just want to say thank you to the ones who were really positive. All the well wishers who’ve been wishing me well. And for those that don’t, then there’s nothing I can do about that, but I’m still going to do my best cause I’m a Belizean, what can I say?”
Shiemicka might leave Belize tomorrow but you’ll see her again on April 10th on the CBS Morning Show with other Miss Universe contestants. The Miss Universe pageant is scheduled for May 12th in Nicosia, Cyprus.
