Five injured in city shotgunning
A 23-year-old mechanic has been arrested and charged with five counts of attempted murder and five counts of wounding after he opened fire on a group of men. Police say their investigation reveals that on Friday night, Hubert Francis had gotten into an argument with two men while he was out with a group of friends on Raccoon Street Extension. Francis then left the area but returned later that night armed with a sawed off shotgun. It is not certain if Francis mistook anyone in the group for the two men he had an altercation with, but police say the young man just opened fire on whoever was in the area at the time. 23 year old Anthony Sutherland was grazed in the head, 35 year old Luis Vellos received wounds to his chin, shoulder and chest, 21 year old Kenroy Smith received pellet wounds to his right hand and right leg, 18 year old Charles Hinds received pellet wounds to the back of his head and right hand and 20 year old Luis Ruiz received wounds to the head, right ear and right palm of the hand. Francis appeared in Magistrate Court this morning and was remanded to the Hattieville Prison. He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 16th.
