CitCo & Partners Gift Brand New House!
Today, the Belize City Council teamed up with a number of corporate partners to gift a brand new house to an elderly citizen. The handing over happened this afternoon on Sunflower Street where Mayor Bernard Wagner and the council’s business partners joined the grateful recipient to hand over the house valued at almost twenty-five thousand dollars. Here’s a look at how that went.
Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor
“Just by coincidence we were doing some reviewing of the work on Police Street and saw the deplorable conditions of Ms. Evans and said I had to do something to alleviate the suffering that one of our elderly residents was living through. The Golden Bay contribution was in the area of theaccessories – the interior accessories like the sewage and the sink and those type of things. Benny’s was for the materials use for the exterior of the building. Belize Bank gave us funding – a cheque towards acquiring some of the other materials needed for the home as well. So, overall, this home here ran us about twenty-four thousand dollars total. As you can see it is a well built home; well constructed. We never cut no corners here and the money was well spent. We had some measure of labour from the city council through our works department who has the necessary know how to carry out works such as these. So, by the end of the day, by collaborating all these entities together we now have Miss Oriemay out of those living conditions that she was in.”

“Miss Evans you got a brand new house today, what is the feeling like for you?”
Oriemay Evans, Recipient
“Aye – so good like when the children believe in Santa Claus and they can’t wait for Christmas Eve for that Santa Clause come, well dah right suh I feel good.”
Andrea Polanco
“How will this brand new house change your life?”
Oriemay Evans
“A lot because first it was terrible. So, this change my life a lot, a lot. I could do everything in there comfortable and nuh have to worry about getting wet, afraid of the breeze blowing or nothing.”
