Karen Bevans Threatens to Sue PM Briceño, Eamon Courtenay Says That Would be a Sad Mistake
Director of the Belize Tourism Board Karen Bevans has hired the legal services of former Prime Minister Dean Barrow to sue Love FM and Prime Minister John Briceño. Bevans’ contention is with an interview with Prime Minister Briceño that Love FM aired last week. The topic of the interview was the extension of contracts given to government employees in high positions months before elections. In the interview, the Prime Minister singled out Bevans and characterized the contract as massive two hundred and fifty thousand dollars contract. The Prime Minister went on to say many things about Bevans and the contract, some of which Bevans interprets as slander and defamatory. She hired Barrow to write Love FM and the Prime Minister, requesting an apology, retraction and compensation because her reputation had suffered and her feelings hurt. Bevans wants her request met within two weeks or she will sue the Prime Minister. But today Senior Counsel Minister Eamon Courtenay said that that would be a sad mistake for Bevans.
Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“I hope Miss Bevans won’t sue the Prime Minister. That would be a sad mistake. Think about it – one point two million dollars and you want to sue the Prime Minister. Let’s not get it twisted too early in the day. Right. I have nothing more to say on that.”
