Ministry of National Defence & Border Security Visit San Vicente, Toledo
Today, Minister of National Defence and Border Security Florencio Marin and Minister of State Oscar Mira visited the village of San Vicente in the Toledo District to meet with the village council. The meeting was to address the issue between residents and B.D.F. soldiers stationed in the village. You’d recall that on November twenty-ninth, the villagers went head to head with members of law enforcement and essentially chased the officers out of the village. Minister Marin reminded of the critical importance of maintaining B.D.F. presence in the border region and maintaining a respectful and collaborative relationship with community leaders. New protocols for communication and engagements between the B.D.F. and community leaders will be put in place to ensure a positive and effective relationship between the troops and villagers. Earlier today, we asked ComPol Chester Williams for an update on the situation.

“That matter was dealt with through mediation. The Alcalde of the village apologised for what happened and the matter was resolved; we move on from there.”
