Police Make Major Weed Bust – 71.8 Pounds

There was a huge marijuana bust overnight in Belize District. A vehicle travelling on the Philip Goldson Highway was intercepted by police officers when the driver attempted to evade a checkpoint near the entrance to the Vista Del Mar community, near Manatee Lookout. Information is that a Volkswagen car was transporting a large quantity of compressed marijuana. Inside the vehicle were three sacks with thirty-five parcels of cannabis, weighing a total of thirty-two point six-three kilos or seventy-one point eight pounds.  ComPol Chester Williams says two men are detained pending charges.

“Sometime around six, police at the checkpoint near the Manatee Lookout at the Philip Goldson Highway intercepted a red Volkswagen car. Inside that vehicle were two individuals. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of seventy-one pounds of cannabis. Those persons are in custody and are expected to be charged today for drug trafficking.”
