Quarantine Regulations Violators Will Be Ticketed!
As the task force is activated to police the regulations, moving forward they are looking for ways to minimize close contact with the public. One way of doing that – which will see arrests reduced – is to ticket the law breakers. Commissioner Williams says that he has been in discussion with the ministers of Home Affairs and Health to determine a way forward to hold those accountable for their violations.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We have discussed the issue of making the offences under the quarantine regulations a ticketed offence. So, what we are finding out is that some of the police officers are fearful of dealing with people because of the fact that they don’t know what the person’s status may be and so we believe that if we go with a ticketing system where the police just issue a ticket which allow the police to have less interaction with violators while still achieving the goal of penalizing those who continue to violate. But what I want to see is that people begin to adhere to the regulation not because they fear the police arresting them or they fear of being ticketed but rather because it is the right thing to do.”
