CDC Warns Travellers; Very High Level of COVID-19 in Belize
Keith Gilges also chimed in on the CDC designation of COVID-19 levels in Belize. The Chargé d’Affaires says that the Center for Disease Control placed over a hundred and seventy countries in that level four designation, including the United States.

“They were looking globally at all countries that are either level one, level two medium, level three high; level four very high for health related issues. So yes, the CDC moved a whole bunch of countries and I think there was a total of about a hundred and seventy-four to the very high level. So Belize is in that category, so is the United States. Now we don’t formally have that designation, but certainly that’s what it would be. For travel purposes for the State Department, which is part of what I’m involved in, in fact is still level three. So we recommend folks to rethink travel, be aware of what the conditions are. It’s tough, how do you balance the need to get the economy open and to get tourists and their money, while at the same time protecting the public health of the community. And this is a tough call and that’s something that the leadership of Belize is going to decide what’s best for Belize.”
