No Extra Pay for Police Officers for Extraneous Duties
With the crime-fighting strategy, comes longer hours for police men and women. They will have to be out on the streets, patrolling and keeping the citizenry safe for longer hours during the extended weekend. The officers, however, will not be paid for their extraneous duties and this is not sitting well with the rank and file of the Belize Police Department. According to Commissioner Chester Williams, instead of extra monies, the officers will be given time off.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Hipolito, the police are one of the few people who are still employed and getting a full salary despite the fact that government is strap with cash and I have said to police officers from the onset of the pandemic that extraneous duties this year is are not going to be paid but commanders across the country have been directed to ensure that the police officers are compensated by way of time off. Yes while we are working the officers extra they do get time off back in lieu of working extra. So at the end of the day we owe them nothing.”
