father questioned in baby’s death
Police have detained one man for questioning after an infant left in his care died on Wednesday morning. The man told police he left his daughter, six month old Jayleen Jones, sleeping on the bed at their home in Belize City, but when he returned about five minutes later she was lying on the floor crying. He says he rushed her to the Karl Heusner Memorial, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. A post mortem certified the infant died from asphyxia due to neck pressure and trauma to the head. Dr. Mario Estradabran was unable to visit the scene today, but will go there tomorrow. Police say they are waiting for his report before they decide whether to press charges against the father.
