Dangriga finally to get new library
Construction will finally begin on the long awaited new library for Dangriga. The National Library Service announced today that funding has come through from the Ministry of Education as well as the Social Security Board. Construction on the land, donated by Cornelius Cacho should begin in about two weeks. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held back in 1996 but a lack of financing prevented the project from becoming a reality. The Ministry of Education is now contributing $80,000, while the SSB is helping with 10,000 for books and other materials. The existing facility is heavily used by the general public and students from ANRI, the Delille Academy and UCB, so additional space and more computers and books are needed. If you would like to donate cash or materials contact the National Library Service at nls@btl.net, the Dangriga Library or Phyllis Cayetano, Chairperson of the Dangriga Library Committee. The new library will be named after Cornelius Cacho’s mother, Ingnacia Cacho.
