Father kills son in hunting accident
A family hunting trip in San Estevan has left one son dead after his father mistook him for a deer in the bushes. According to police, on Saturday night, 61 year old Wilfredo Pott Sr., his two sons and a grandson were hunting in the bush off the San Estevan Road. Wilfredo Pott Sr. says he and his son, 30 year old Wilfredo, thought they saw a deer and decided to separate from the others in order to corner it. Pott says he saw what appeared to be the deer running through the bushes and fired nine shots. He heard a scream and discovered his son had been shot in the head. He was rushed to the Orange Walk Town Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The case was presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions, but he recommended that the father, Wilfredo Pott Sr., not be charged.
