Child dies in highway accident

Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident, which took place between mile 62 and 63 on the Western Highway on Wednesday. Initial investigations reveal that around 5:00 yesterday afternoon, 27 year old Daniel Estelle, a mechanic of two and a half miles Northern Highway was driving his van from Corozal to Belize City. Near San Jose Village, he allegedly knocked down 11 year old Ciria Zuniga, as she was attempting to run across the highway. The child died on the spot. Estelle will be charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct and Driving without Due Care and Attention. Police are also investigating another accident that led to the death of 23 year old Thomas Petillo. Around 11:00 yesterday morning, 39 year old John Enriquez, a cabinetmaker of the Water Supply Area, was driving his Ford pick-up towards Forest Home Village. Petillo of Indian Village and another man were riding in the back with some furniture. Between miles one and two on the Punta Gorda Road, Petillo fell out of the vehicle, and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to the Punta Gorda Town Hospital where he later died.
