Fearing safety, Scouts won’t raise Guatemalan flag
In related news, the mystery of the missing flag has been solved. A press release from the Scout Association says that following an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the Association took a decision to no longer raise the Guatemalan flag at the Belize City roundabout. The reasoning given was the fear that angry Belizeans might take the flag away from the Scouts and burn it in protest of the Guatemalan Government’s detention of four Belizean security personnel. While it is difficult to visualize the image of patriotism-crazed Belize City residents beating up on a handful of scouts at the crack of dawn, we will have to assume that the Scout leadership acted out of a concern for safety and not political ill will. Scouting is an international movement which stresses the common bonds and goals that unite young people regardless of nationality. The Scout leadership says that the flag will go back up as soon as our men come home.
