Placencia Fire Dept. Gets 2 Fire Trucks

Two fire trucks were delivered today to the Placencia Fire Station, courtesy of the Joanna Volunteer Fire Department and Cross Hill Fire Department of South Carolina.  The fire trucks landed at the P.G.I.A. in a U.S. Air Force C5 today.  The delivery of the trucks was facilitated by the U.S. Embassy in Belize with the assistance of the U.S. Southern Command and the Denton Program. Senior Defense Official received it for U.S. Embassy Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Jones and Fire Chief Colin Gillett, and David Kafka.  It was because of Kafka’s plea on social media that the donation became a reality.  He is a former firefighter in South Carolina who migrated to Placencia and became a Placencia Fire Board member and volunteer firefighter. He posted a plea for assistance on Facebook after seeing the need to reduce response time and increase his new community capability.  One of the two fire trucks will be used to reduce response times, while the other will be used as a tender to increase the water supply.  The trucks come with equipment, foam, and bunker gear to increase their capacity to respond and fight fires.
