120+ Applied to Run for P.U.P. in Municipal Elections
Meanwhile, the P.U.P. National Executive is expected to meet this week, where its nine municipal slates will be approved for the upcoming elections. The process was different this year, and conventions were not held due to COVID-19. Henry Charles Usher – in his capacity as P.U.P. Chairman – says that after the December eighteenth deadline for applications, the hopefuls were vetted, and recommendations were made to steering committees that were set up in the nine municipalities.
Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, P.U.P.
“We received over a hundred and twenty applications so you see the enthusiasm is there, the interest is there – persons countrywide wanting to be a part of the slate, the People’s United Party slate. So I was happy to see that, excited to see the calibre of people coming forward and offering themselves to run on the party ticket. So at that point, after the deadline of the applications, we had a vetting committee meeting, as set up by the national executive of the party and that vetting committee looked at all applications and then passed on their recommendations to municipal steering committees. In each municipality, there was a steering committee set up and those steering committees are looking at the different slates and determining the best way forward.”
