Drugs and Firearms Removed from the City Streets
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, in Belize City, police were able to remove drugs, firearms, and ammunition from the streets. The search of a residence on Hemsley Alley led to the discovery of a Sig Sauer pistol and a handgun along with three magazines. They also found fifty live rounds of ammunition and a box containing roughly forty-five pounds of suspected cannabis in seventeen parcels. A sixteen-year-old student, who was at the residence at the time, has been detained, pending charges.
Later that day, the officers searched an abandoned lot on Gentle Avenue and a water taxi and discovered a substantial amount of drugs. They found on board the water taxi a plastic bag with just over seven pounds of suspected cannabis. No one took responsibility for the drugs, and it was retrieved and taken to the police station. Also, at the abandoned lot, a plastic bag containing three hundred and sixty-eight grams of suspected weed was discovered. There was no one in the area, so it has been labelled as found property.
