Dozens Gather Outside of Lands Dept. in Belize City

This morning in Belize City, many persons gathered at the office of the Lands Department near the Cemetery Road roundabout. News Five understands that those individuals were all applicants for first-time land ownership. The gathering outside of the building drew the attention of passersby, and the police were called in to enforce the COVID-19 regulations.  It seems that with the implementation of a new application system, applicants believed that the schedule for the process was temporary and rushed the office this morning. To avoid the crowd in the future, the Lands Department has requested that appointments for no more than fifteen persons be made in the morning and another fifteen in the afternoon, Monday to Friday. In other news from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde was in Dangriga once again this past weekend, where he met with residents concerning the issuance of land in Stann Creek District. Viewers would recall that Hyde was in Dangriga on January fourteenth for a similar clinic.
