Hattieville prisoner escapes from work program
Another inmate of the Hattieville Prison has escaped from custody. Police say on Wednesday afternoon, 22 year old Jordi Espat, was taken from the prison with a group going on a work program and sometime later it was discovered that Espat was missing. Police say Prison Authorities have not told them where Espat was working only that he was not accounted for around 1:00pm. He was on remand for burglary. Two other prisoners, Darryl Jones and Brian Walker are also still at large after they slipped off their handcuffs and fled while being escorted from the Magistrate Court building to the Eastern Division Police Station last week. A third prisoner, Salva Carballo who accompanied them was picked up the next day at a house in Belize City. In other news from the prison, Victor Lanza was arraigned in court today on murder charges. He is accused of killing another inmate Lincoln Smith on Sunday by stabbing him in the neck with a steel rod. He himself was hospitalized after prisoners who witnessed the incident attacked and beat him.
