Bus crash leaves two injured
A Z-Line bus filled with passengers crashed early this morning on the Hummingbird Highway. The bus departed from Dangriga shortly after 6:00 and was heading towards Belmopan but as the vehicle approached mile forty-seven and a half, it almost crashed into the rear of a dump truck that was parked on the highway. The bus driver, Oscar Cordon, told police he swerved to the left to avoid a collision. But as the bus swung to the other side of the road, it crashed into a Toyota pickup truck parked well off the side of the highway. Margarita Deras, who was a passenger on the bus, received injuries to her forehead, right arm and right hip. While Miguel Mejia, who was standing by the pickup truck received injuries to his head, face and back. Deras and Mejia were transported to the Belmopan Hospital. However, we have been unable to get any updates on their condition from hospital staff. Meanwhile, police say they have identified the driver of the dump truck as Winston Duran. Because the accident remains under investigation no charges have been brought against anyone involved. Both the bus and the pickup truck were extensively damaged.
