Textbooks standardized in schools

Every year, parents go on the warpath about buying expensive primary school textbooks, many of which are discontinued in favor of newer books the following year. But now the Ministry of Education says that will all change. A review committee made up of school principals, managers and the minister himself, has recommended a list of books to be used in primary schools. The math, science, social studies and language books will be on school desks in September. Its a move the ministry hopes will help the financially strapped mommies and daddies and keep more children in school. Parents will not be required to buy any books NOT on the official book list and the maximum number of books will be two per subject. The Ministry of Education says for too long, children have not had the books they need because of financial constraints on the family. School principals can also apply for book subsidies through the Government Book Loan scheme. The list of approved texts will be released in the near future.
