Unity Presbyterian School Burglarized Again and Again

Teachers of Unity Presbyterian School in south side Belize City are tonight once again pleading for help as their classrooms have been burglarized for the second time this month.  It is a perennial problem that the school has been facing, and it seems that this time, they have been left alone to deal with the issue.  Teacher Samantha Moody says that the school is trying its best to put preventative measures in place to stop the burglars.

“For the past month we have had two break-ins. One on the lower division which had effects on three teachers. We also had one upstairs that also affected three teachers as the classes are joined to each other and we do have a door that connects. So in this past month we had two break-ins. Within that time teaches have lost quite a lot of materials. We’ve had our furniture defaced and as teachers we do not get any funding for anything in our classrooms. That comes directly out of our pockets.  We have been on the media. This is not the first time. Probably about the third time we have been appealing to the public. The police department we understand sometimes it is limited. We have done before was to do the upstairs. If you look outside the building, we had the burglar bars installed. That is not working anymore.  If you look at the back door for me, that has been stomped in. The lock has to be replaced and the door has to be replaced because it is not study enough. So when they get into one class, because they are joined they can get connect. So we have small supplies like staplers, for some teachers they would have little speakers that they would leave in their class, so we have small items tht are valuable and those would usually go. So example, upstairs they were changing the locks and the doors, all the small tools were gone.  I am appealing to mothers. You see your children come in with things that you know you did not purchase, that is not for them. Please we are asking you to be vigilant because it is not grown persons that we doing this. It is the young men from the community that we serve. We are doing a fundraiser at the end of the month. It will be the last Friday and it will be sold for eight dollars a plate, we are asking the community to come out and support us. So we are appealing to the business community as well. Maybe those that would sell steel, please assist us. We want to create more bars and safety features at the school that would prevent break-ins.”
