What’s the Status of the OSH Bill?

Luis Martinez

Another issue that Martinez hopes to tackle during his time as president of the N.T.U.C.B. is the Occupational Safety and Health Bill.  Martinez aims to revive the discussion and talks of the OSH Bill with the Briceño administration.

Luis Martinez, President, N.T.U.C.B.

“OSH has been a long dragging matter. So I had mention before that OSH is one of our pet peeves. We cannot run away from occupational and health safety. It is a travesty to see that it is only when there is a serious incident for example, when we had that tragedy in the Belize City Center where a guy died and that is when the government of Belize at that time had sent out a press release, giving committal to ensure that there will be a passage of the Occupational and health safety. Then now we have COVID-19 and whole lot of issue. So we have to ensure that worker has to continue to work in healthy and safety environment. We have been working closely with the chamber to review the bill and certainly that should be going back to labor. We will be working together on the occupational and health safety.”
