Fonseca attends CDB/IMF conference
Minister of Economic Development Ralph Fonseca represented Belize at a Caribbean Development Bank/International Monetary Fund conference in Barbados over the weekend then met with potential investors in New York. The CDB/IMF conference covered topics such as repositioning the Caribbean for globalization, offshore services industry, fiscal and political reform, elimination of poverty and small states initiative and special and differential treatment. According to the press office the various government ministers, technicians and banking officials tried to develop an understanding of the economic vulnerabilities of Caribbean states and the need for transition time to confront the challenges of globalization. Minister Fonseca then flew to New York at the request of Belize’s United Nation’s Embassy where he, Ambassador Eamon Courtenay and Minister Godfrey Smith met with potential investors and updated embassy staff on their role in helping Belize’s economic development.
